Procedures for Business Licence

1. Filling of an application form
2. Inspection of business premises by the Council using the application form
3. If approved, payment of license fees depending on the business type
4. If not approved, applicant is informed of required corrections
5. Payments are made at Council offices (FDH Bank cashiers)
6. No payments must be made to Council employees
7. Only bank guarantee cheques are accepted (no ordinary cheques)

Late renewals may attract penalties. Business owners are encouraged to begin the renewal process early to avoid disruptions.

3. Traffic Management Section

• Management of bus depots, minibus terminals and parking spaces in the City
• Collecting parking fees in Blantyre City
• Enforcement of traffic regulations and Council bylaws
• Implementing safety measures in collaboration with Council police officers
• Collection of revenue from designated parking spaces
• Maintenance of open and closed parking spaces in liaison with Engineering Directorate

4. Investments Section Unit

A. Markets and Commercial Rentals

• Management of markets, shops and commercial structures owned by the Council
• Inspection of markets and commercial structures
• Revenue collection through issuance of market tickets
• Engagement with market committees
• Maintenance of market structures (with Engineering Directorate)
• Maintaining clean and healthy markets (with Health Directorate)
• Revenue collection from Council-owned shops and commercial structures
